Privacy Policy — Quietide

Operated by Soundica. Effective 2026-06-23. Version 1.0.

This policy explains what information the Quietide application (the "App") and the associated pages on soundica.app process, why, and your rights under applicable laws including the EU/UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Quebec's Law 25, the Korean Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI), Singapore PDPA, India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, and the Australian Privacy Act.

1. At a glance

2. Scope

This policy applies to the Quietide app on all form factors and stores it is distributed through — Google Play (smartphone and tablet), Google Play Cars (Android Automotive OS), and the Appning by FORVIA AOSP head-unit store — and to the corresponding pages on soundica.app.

3. Data we collect

Quietide is designed to work without a user account and without tracking identifiers. Specifically:

4. Data processed when you use the App

5. Legal basis (EU/UK GDPR)

Under GDPR Art. 6(1)(b), the limited processing described above is necessary to deliver the service you have asked for (streaming the sounds, restoring your mix, and the optional manifest update). No consent banner is required because we do not set tracking cookies, do not use the data for profiling, and do not share it with advertising partners.

6. Data retention

Because the App stores nothing about you on our servers, we have nothing to retain. The bundled and any remote manifests are keyed by asset id and licence metadata, never by user. Local state (chosen sounds, mix levels, sleep timer, volume) remains on your device until you uninstall the App or use Settings → Reset.

7. International transfers

The audio source (the Internet Archive) is operated from the United States and globally. If you play a sound whose origin is outside your country, your network request is necessarily routed across borders at the transport layer. Because no personal data is stored by Soundica, no Standard Contractual Clauses or transfer impact assessments are required for the App itself. Your relationship with the Internet Archive's servers is governed by their own privacy policy.

8. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict, object to processing, and request portability of your personal data. Because Soundica does not hold any personal data linked to you, requests to access or delete will be answered with "we have no data linked to you." You always have the unconditional right to delete the App from your device, which removes all locally-stored settings.

To exercise these rights, contact Soundica at admin@soundica.app. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority — for example, the ICO (UK), CNIL (France), BfDI (Germany), Garante (Italy), AEPD (Spain), PIPC (Korea), PPC (Japan), OAIC (Australia), or the relevant State Data Protection Officer under India's DPDP Act.

9. Children

The App is a general-audience ambient and nature-sound player. Its audio consists of natural soundscapes and generated noise and is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect any data from children — in fact, the App collects no personal data from anyone.

10. Audio sources, licensing, and copyright

Quietide plays only audio that is free of copyright restrictions. Natural sounds — rain, waves, wind, birdsong, fire — are not copyrightable in themselves; the only right that can attach is the sound-recording (fixation) right in a specific recording, and the App eliminates that at the source. White, pink, and brown noise are generated algorithmically and lack the originality required for copyright. The library is sourced only from three buckets:

Each asset passes a per-asset due-diligence gate before inclusion:

The App does not use BBC Sound Effects under the RemArc licence (non-commercial), any CC BY-NC audio (non-commercial), any CC BY-SA audio (share-alike), "royalty-free" platform libraries where their licence forbids stand-alone use, or AI-generated audio. Where a third-party CC0 recording is relied upon, that dedication is offered as-is and without warranty of title; CC0 status is one factor in the gate, alongside source credibility and the absence of embedded third-party material. Quietide is independent and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by any content source. The App does not rehost or re-distribute the underlying files; the audio is streamed directly from the Internet Archive (archive.org).

If you are a rights holder and believe a specific asset is included in error, please see Section 13 for the designated copyright agent and notice procedure.

11. Security

All network traffic from the App (audio streaming and the optional manifest update) is encrypted with TLS (HTTPS). The App requests only the minimum permissions needed (Internet access; foreground-service playback; optional notifications) and stores its local state in the App's private sandbox.

12. Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will update the "Effective" date and, where required by law, prompt you in-app.

13. Contact and designated copyright / DMCA agent
